With our ONE WISH Build a home program we work together with local organizations to build homes for families who are homeless or in desperate need of adequate housing.
Combatting homelessness
Globally an estimated 1.6 billion people do not have adequate housing. Over an estimated 100 million are homeless. Many are ‘hidden’ since it is difficult to keep track of how many people actually do not have homes or live on the street. There are also 150 million street children in the world due to various causes, such as domestic violence, being orphaned, family breakdown, war, natural disaster or socio-economic related issues. Being homeless makes it harder for people to find jobs, stay healthy and keep their children safe. For children it often means looking for food and working instead of going to school. Living on the streets also makes them more vulnerable to crime and drug abuse.
