Child exploitation
Forced labor, also known as modern slavery, generates an annual profit of 150 billion dollars annually. An estimated 40.3 million people are victims of slavery. 71% or 28.6 million are women and girls, and 25% or 10 million of the total are children. 4.8 million people are the victim of forced sexual exploitation, of which 99% are female. (More than 70% of victims of forced sexual exploitation are in the Asia and Pacific region.) Children represent 21% and more than 1 million children are victims of forced sexual exploitation. Child victims are difficult to detect due to the hidden nature of this industry. The true figure is likely to be much higher than the current estimate. Many are sold by their family or are forced to work in the sex industry.
