ONE FUTURE
Helping children learn to read and write
By supporting education, we hope to see a change in the staggering extent of illiteracy worldwide as we help children and young people realize their ONE FUTURE.
Combatting illiteracy
There are around 1 billion people who are illiterate worldwide. 617 million of them are children who do not achieve minimum proficiency levels in reading and mathematics. This number includes 387 million primary school children aged 6-11 and 230 million adolescents aged 12-14. More than half of these children will not be able to read or write proficiently by the time they finish their primary education. And for the adolescents this is even higher with 61% not reaching the minimum proficiency levels. Illiteracy can cause many families to remain in poverty. It prevents them from getting jobs and pursuing higher education.
