Water projects
Our Water projects program makes it possible to provide communities with safe, clean drinking water and sanitation services.
Providing drinking water
2 billion people still lack access to safe, clean drinking water around the globe. They have to use drinking water contaminated with feces. Contaminated water can transmit diseases such as diarrhea, cholera, dysentery, typhoid, and polio. Each year 842,000 people are estimated to die from diarrhea as a result of unsafe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene. Of that number, 361,000 are estimated to be children under 5 years, cases that could be avoided if clean drinking water and sanitation was available.
- 2 Billion people have no access to clean drinking water worldwide, 25 % of world population
- 620 Million children lack basic sanitation services, limited or no sanitation services at school, 8.1% of world population, 23% of schools worldwide
- 570 Million children lack basic water, limited or no drinking water at school, 7.5% of world population, 19% of schools worldwide
